The Rock: Through The Lens by Hiram Garcia Book Review
I reviewed a stellar book last week called Songteller by Dolly Parton.
This book contains stories about Dolly’s songs — over 170 in the book — and why she formed them. It’s a book I’ll come back to again and again.
Another book, I’ll come back to again and again is the one I’m reviewing today, The Rock: Through The Lens by Hiram Garcia. This is a biography as well, and one I would recommend. Let’s get into the review.
Who is the author?
- Hiram has known The Rock for 30 years
- Friends and now could say they’re brothers
- Takes a good chunk of The Rock’s photos for shoots, weddings, movies, and so much more
What’s the book about?
All about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who got his nickname “The Rock” in WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). Dwayne went with it, and he has used the nickname ever since.
This book is the closest story you’ll get to The Rock. No other story compares.
The book is mostly pictures, but a picture can mean 1,000 words. This is the life of The Rock like you’ve never seen him before. The book provides pictures of his life, kids, movies, and his brands.
My review:
I gave the book a 5/5. Who wouldn’t? Here’s my review from Storygraph:
The pictures are amazing, the stories provide insight into The Rock’s life, and the book is engaging. I recommend buying your copy.
What did I like?
1. The pictures
Hiram knows how to take pictures. He’s an astounding photographer, and he provides the entire perspective of The Rock through his pictures.
2. A book I can peruse repeatedly
If I go back to a book repeatedly, the book has to be good. I bought a copy, and I only do that if I love the book! I might have to re-read some of the book now.
What did I not like?
1. Nothing, but there’s one thing I would like to point out: where’s the written biography now?
Now, I would love a written biography, but that’s not going to happen until someone follows The Rock and interviews him for a year. Then interview their family members, friends, co-workers, etc. Compile all that information, form an outline, and then form a solid book. Walter Isaacson has done this for many entrepreneurs, and his storytelling would make The Rock’s biography stand out.
The other option would be for The Rock to write the book himself, which I don’t think he would do. He would rather outsource that to another person to write. I think Walter should pick it up and make this biography a reality.
This picture book only makes me want more detail on his life, story, and movies. It’s the best book yet on The Rock’s life, but it makes you want more. So be aware.
If you haven’t read this book, I recommend it. It’s a great book. Unlike Songteller by Dolly Parton book, you should read this book cover to cover. For this one, I did because 90% of the book is pictures. It’s like looking through a photo album, and you can’t skip pages on a photo album! I mean, you could if you’re getting to a specific photo.
If it’s your first time, look through the entire book, read the sections, and take notes. You can learn a lot about life, photography, and so much more.
Thanks for reading! I’ll talk to you tomorrow on another post. Follow Johnnysbookreviews for more!
