My Spoiler Thoughts About Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
Spoiler alert: I want to mention some things I 've thought about since reading this book. I still have some questions, so I’m going to re-read the book. I’ll be discussing these spoiler thoughts after I provide information about the book, so let’s begin.
What’s this book about:
Violet Sorrengail wants to be a scribe who are the record and history keepers, but her mom is forcing her to be a dragon rider. You either fly or die if you choose the dragon rider. There are three challenges that Violet has to endure before she can ride a dragon if a dragon chooses her. Each challenge has a high risk of death. Also, you can pass all three challenges and then get scorched by a dragon, so Violet has a lot to overcome. It doesn’t help that she’s physically not capable of riding a dragon, but this doesn’t stop her. Rebecca has a form of chronic illness, so she wrote Violet with a similar chronic illness.
This sci-fi book came out on May 2nd, 2023. This book has dragons, enemies to lovers trope, battle scenes, betrayal, and so much more. One of the best sci-fi books I’ve read, and I can’t wait for the second book coming out November 7th, 2023.
Who is Rebecca Yarros?
- Has written 15 novels and majority of them are romance
- Fourth Wing is her debut sci-fi book
1. Violet’s mom killed her own husband by poison
Why do I say this?
Because the husband knew too much. He was going to provide this information to a ton of people, so the mom ordered someone to kill him. His death seemed 'natural', but poison or a drug can always alter that.
Also, Violet’s brother survived. Violet’s mom loves her son, but she’ll do whatever is possible to cover up lies. The brother was confirmed dead, but there was no way in knowing that. Violet’s mom decided to say he died without investigating if he really was. Isn’t that suspicious? She figured he died, so she didn’t have to kill him like the way she did with her husband. If the brother died the same way as the dad, it would be suspicious. However, the battle was the perfect cover up to confirm that Violet’s brother died in combat.
2. Violet's dragons
Violet will be bonded to two powerful dragons. This is the first time this ever happened, and this will make Violet the most powerful dragon rider ever.
3. Dain is the bad guy
We are brought to the conclusion that Xaden must be the villain and that we can’t trust him. However, Yarros drops a big twist at the end of the book where Dain betrays Violet. Dain might have been betraying Violet the entire time.
Dain’s power is telepathy, but he can only use that power if he touches a person’s face. In this book, he touches Violet’s face a lot. I’m thinking he was taking her thoughts and memories and using it against her. This is proved true at the end of the book where Dain ordered the army at the post to leave the post, leaving Xaden, Violet, and a couple other students defending the post by themselves. No first year or student ever defended a post alone, and this is a guaranteed way to kill off those students.
Dain allowed the enemy to infilitrate the post and almost kill Violet, Xaden, and everyone else. The only way he knew this was because he touched her face before she went to the post. He warned her not to go, but she still went. Despite Violet heading to the post, he still ordered the people at the post to leave. Honestly, I think he was a little jealous that she chose Xaden. Violet knows this and is pissed at Dain for leaving them alone at the post. There’s a big battle going to happen between Violet and Xaden and Dain and Violet’s mom.
Those are my thoughts. I can’t wait for the second book to see if my guesses are correct.
