My Reading Goal This Year
On Goodreads, there’s a challenge that you put in the amount of books you want to read. This year, I decided to do something different. I wanted to put one book as my goal. This is an easy achievement to do.
I did this goal because I didn’t want to be pressured to read a certain number of books. This pressure would drive me to not read for fun. This is what happened over the last two years when I put a certain number of books to read on Goodreads. I was reading for a number and not the enjoyment and learning of reading.
With this new goal, I’ve made my reading habit stronger by making it more enjoyable. I’ve been able to continue my reading streak. Today, Thanksgiving in 2023, makes day 1,057 of reading everyday.
The amount of books I read per year doesn’t matter to me. What matters is the consistency. I wasn’t consistent with reading where I would read for a couple days, stop for weeks, and continue this cycle. It was bugging me, so I started a reading streak in the beginning of 2021.
During this streak, I’ve been able to read on average 3–4 hours everyday and read 100 pgs. per day. With that amount of reading, I’m able to finish many books.
The point is to continue the reading streak and be able to learn from the best minds out there for only $20. The important thing is applying what I learn, and this is what I’ve done, either by improving my writing, finances, physical health, mental health, and so much more.
Reading has changed my life, and I don’t want to stop doing it. My reading streak has made me consistent with other habits like running and writing. It also has helped my work ethic, be more disciplined, show up more for my friends/family, and focus on things that bring me joy.
With that, I’m signing off. I have to read and head to my family’s for Thanksgiving dinner. Let’s finish this year strong.
