I’ll be providing more posts about Never Finished because there is a lot to unpack.

I took 567 highlights and a couple notes. I’ll be going back to those highlights and writing some of the thoughts to it in the future.

My highlights and notes

This book doesn’t go over his life in detail unlike Cant Hurt Me. Can’t Hurt Me is more his memoir. Never Finished is a guidebook where he lays out things he has learned over his lifetime. The book has eight evolutions, and these evolutions will shift your mind on what’s possible. The evolutions that spoke to me the most are the chapters he mentions Moab 240. A 240 mile race through deserts and mountains.

The first chapter is called The Art of Getting Hit In The Mouth and the second chapter is called The Reckoning.

In that first chapter, David couldn’t finish the race. He got altitude sickness and had to go to the hospital. This is where he got hit in the mouth and got the taste for revenge.

In David fashion though, he got back to where he stopped at mile 201 and kept running. He couldn’t cross the finish line because he went to the hospital, but he finished the race.

The second chapter goes over his redemption and revenge. He got the reckoning he visioned. He finished the race in 62 hours, which is pretty good.

While I was listening to these chapters, I got the realization that trail running and running these long distances puts your body to the limit. What can the human body do?

Because of these evolutions and his detail on Moab 240, I’ve enjoyed his second book more. Don’t get me wrong but Can’t Hurt Me is a stellar book. In Goggins fashion, he topped the first book and blew it out of the water.

You have to read both to make your decision. If you want more information on David and his upbringing, read Can’t Hurt Me.

That’s it. These two books are amazing. I would start with Never Finished first though. If you want more book related posts, follow Johnnysbookreviews for more!
